Best Time to Visit Tulbagh
Tulbagh is gorgeous year-round, but the best times to visit are:
Spring (August - October): Wildflowers bloom, vineyards green up, and the weather is just right.
Autumn (March - May): Harvest time! Wine festivals, golden leaves, and fewer crowds.
Winter (June - August): Winter is extra special because it’s one of the few places in the Western Cape where you can experience the magic of snow-capped mountains! While snow doesn’t fall in the town itself, the surrounding peaks often get a beautiful dusting of snow, creating a stunning backdrop against the town’s charming landscapes. So you will experience crisp mountain air, cosy fireplaces, and red wine season.
Summer (December - February) can get hot like most places, but if you love sunshine, weddings, and poolside rosé, it is one of the best times to visit.
When I first visited Tulbagh around March, I had no idea this charming little town was quickly becoming one of the most sought-after wedding destinations in the Western Cape. To my surprise, it was fully booked for accommodation during both of my visits. While Tulbagh is a popular wedding hotspot year-round, it truly shines from February to April, as summer winds down and autumn sets in. The breathtaking scenery, rustic charm, and intimate atmosphere make it the perfect place for couples tying the knot.
If you're planning to visit over a weekend, especially during the wedding season - make sure to book your accommodation well in advance! The town fills up quickly, and if you're not careful, you might end up like me: scrambling to find a place to stay.
